KVizzing With The Comedians

During the COVID-19 pandemic, when the world came to a standstill, Kumar Varun brought a fresh wave of entertainment with his online quizzing tournaments. Titled “Kvizzing With The Comedians”, this series quickly became a Sunday ritual for many Indian comedy fans. Since its inception in July 2020, 14 tournaments have been conducted, amassing over 100 million views on YouTube.

The Journey of Kvizzing 🚀

Kumar Varun’s brainchild, Kvizzing, initially began as a live event at Mumbai’s Haiku Jam. However, the pandemic led him to adapt to the online format, and it soon became a massive hit. Every Sunday, fans would eagerly wait in front of their screens at 11 am for the latest episode. Those with a keen quizzing spirit could even participate and drop their answers in the live chat, where quizmaster Kumar Varun often engaged with them.

Crafting the Perfect Questions 🧠

Behind every episode lies the meticulous process of crafting questions. Kumar Varun, along with a team of quizzers from his alma mater FMS Delhi, crafts these brain teasers. The recent IPL edition even featured contributions from the audience. Kumar believes a good quiz question should either make people feel delighted that they knew the answer or feel enlightened.

“The proverbial ‘aha’ moment is a must. No matter how obscure the question is, once the answer is revealed the contestants need to go ‘oh!’” – Kumar Varun, DeadAnt.

Kumar Varun Kvizzing Production Company 🎥

In partnership with OML, Kumar Varun started his production company, which not only produces the online editions but also works on other live shows and corporate events centered around trivia. His vision for the company is clear:

“Our long-term mission is to take quizzing to every household and every member of the family in whatever shape and form.”

Audience Participation: The Heart of Kvizzing ❤️

The original idea for Kvizzing always involved audience participation. With the launch of memberships on his YouTube channel, fans can now participate directly. Those with the top-tier membership (called Exhaustive) can sign up on the community page when spots open up.

“Everyone who has watched Kvizzing wants to be a part of that show,” he said. “I also want them to be part of the show because it’s very easy for people to just sit and say, ‘Hey, if I were there I would have said this.’”

Objective: Making Quizzing Universal 🌍

Kumar Varun believes quizzing is for everyone and aims to break the stereotype of it being a ‘nerdy’ activity. He designs the online episodes in a way that every family member can participate and contribute.

“I have always believed that quizzing can be done by everyone,” said KV. “Right through my school and college I felt that it is considered to be a nerdy activity. It sounds very exclusive but I genuinely believe that it is for everyone.”
